
Through the Teenage Reading Network, we identified that teenage voices were missing from a lot of the research on teenage reading.
PhD researcher, Courtney Hooton, was awarded a Public Engagement bursary by Royal Holloway’s ESRC-funded Social Science Impact Accelerator to work with teenagers to identify:
- The importance of reading for teenagers
- What teenagers think we can do to promote teenage reading
- Understand potential influences on teenage reading
To address these aims, we:
- Reviewed the research literature to understand effective approaches for working with teenagers
- Discussed reading with teenagers and individuals who work with them (e.g. teachers, researchers, authors)
- Worked together to enable the creation of researcher-led, teenager-led, author-led and BookToker-led video content
