Teenage reading!

We continue to work with academic collaborators, young people, schools, teachers, school leaders and a range of other partners, to conduct research on reading and language development in children, adolescents and adults. It has been a busy term so far for us, just a few highlights below about our work on teenage reading.

The website has had a refresh: https://lara.psychologyresearch.co.uk/projects/teenage-reading/

You can find information about the Teenage Reading Network here: https://lara.psychologyresearch.co.uk/projects/teenage-reading/teenage-reading-network/

Courtney Hooton, a PhD student at Royal Holloway has been leading a Student Voices project where we have worked with young people to understand their perspectives on reading – take a look at the videos that have been created by us, young people, a BookToker and an author Tia Fisher here: https://lara.psychologyresearch.co.uk/projects/teenage-reading/teenage-reading-network-student-voices/

We are continuing to work with the Department for Education to develop training for all secondary teachers. We are revising the training resources and developing a dissemination and mobilisation plan, with a launch in the Spring. Watch this space!

This autumn we contributed to discussions around reforms to the English GCSE, led by the English Association and Bob Eaglestone at Shakespeare’s Globe. The Oracy Education Commission also published their report, with input from our evidence and a podcast with Jessie. Reading has been high on the agenda in October, and we had the pleasure of talking to the Times twice about reading this month, see here and here.
